My therapeutic approach is a collaborative approach between the client and the therapist. Working together we can find goals and intentions that you want to achieve in therapy. The first step of a functional therapeutic relationship is building the space to feel comfortable to discuss your life’s issues. I believe that the relationship between the client and the therapist is an integral aspect of therapy to be beneficial for the client. I see everyone as having potential and being able to achieve their highest form of self-awareness. I will work with you to process any past traumas, disordered thoughts, and/or behaviors to get you to your maximum potential.
Clinical Areas of Interest
I am trained in and have worked with a diverse population and treatment models. I am passionate about art therapy, which means that art can be used in therapy or art as therapy. Art therapy can be beneficial for many emotional, relational, and behavioral issues. Art therapy also can be beneficial for deepening the processing of trauma or if a client is feeling stuck, blocked, or traditional talk therapy is not working. I am also trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy-Trauma Focused (CBT-TF) and I am an Associate Partner Trauma Therapist (APTT). I am also interested in working with individuals who have been impacted by addiction in their family or relationships.
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and trained in Art Therapy. I received two master’s degrees from Emporia State University in Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy. I attended Iowa State University and received an undergraduate degree in Psychology. I have been working and interning with individuals, groups, children, adolescents and adults for the past 6 years. I have worked in a number of different settings, such as college counseling, inpatient, private practice, and as a school-based therapist.
I really enjoy doing arts and crafts. I like to paint and work with ceramics when I have a chance. I also like to travel and experience new and different places and cultures. I really enjoy baking (and eating) anything sweet. I have an English bulldog who I talk way too much about and would gladly show pictures to whomever asks.
